Research

The quality of the Department’s research is reflected in the number of academic journals in which it is published, the scholarly expertise and specialization of its faculty members, the active participation of dedicated and highly qualified doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and the range of research activities conducted within the Department.

To support these objectives, the Department operates seven research laboratories specializing in key areas of economic science:

• Laboratory of Entrepreneurship, Technology and Economic Strategy
• Laboratory of Transport Economics and Sustainable Mobility
• Laboratory of Health Economics and Management
• Laboratory of Local and Regional Development
• Laboratory of Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development
• Laboratory of Financial Markets Economics, Risk Management and Corporate Governance
• Laboratory of Strategic Leadership and Digital Transformation

In addition, the Department organizes two research seminar series:

• Internal seminars, which provide doctoral students and faculty members with the opportunity to present their ongoing research, as well as to attend presentations by distinguished researchers.
• JERS (Joint Economic Research Seminars), hosted by the Department, which constitute a collaborative initiative among Economics Departments of Greek universities for the joint organization of seminars and workshops, with the aim of promoting research collaboration and learning.

Finally, the Department hosts the peer-reviewed academic journal SPOUDAI – Journal of Economics and Business, an international journal indexed in EconLit and the only journal in Greece awarded by the Academy of Athens.
