Research Seminars
Each year, the Department offers a number of Research Seminars, where distinguished researchers from Greece and abroad present their current research activities and findings.
Specifically, the research seminars are divided into two categories:
- Seminars, workshops, and poster sessions organized under the Joint Economic Research Seminars (JERS) initiative, and
- Internal Department Seminars.
Joint Economic Research Seminars (JERS) are an online collaborative platform that brings together faculty members and researchers from eight collaborating Departments of Economics at Greek universities:
- University of Piraeus (host institution)
- University of Ioannina
- University of Macedonia
- Athens University of Economics and Business
- University of Crete
- National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
- University of Patras
The initiative aims to create an interactive research community involving the majority of Economics Departments in Greece, with the broader objective of promoting knowledge dissemination, strengthening interdepartmental collaboration, and enhancing the international outreach of Greek Economics Departments through the use of modern communication platforms and technologies.
JERS consists of:
- JERS – eight high-quality research paper presentations delivered by international researchers
(frequency: one presentation per month | duration: one hour) - JERS – four workshops specifically designed for early-career and active researchers
(held on Saturdays, 10:30–12:30) - JERS – one dedicated event session primarily aimed at doctoral candidates.
The Department of Economics Research Seminars (PERS – Piraeus Economics Research Seminars) bring together distinguished researchers and members of the Department, including faculty members and doctoral candidates, to present and discuss their current research activities.
Their aim is to promote the exchange of ideas and foster a vibrant academic dialogue, strengthen connections with international research networks, and cultivate a dynamic research culture that enhances both teaching and scientific output.
The seminars are held once per month and follow a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and via Microsoft Teams.
